HVAC Controls/
Operations Technician

What do you like most about your job?

SPTI Jobs are the best!  I love to work on solutions for buildings that need “outside the box” problem solving.

These jobs really highlight our team’s talent, flexibility, and customer service skills.

What did you do before you came to work here?

I’ve been working in Bend Oregon for about 10 years now.  Previously was a Service Foreman for another HVAC company. I have been working in the HVAC/construction trade for around 18 years.

What do you like to do on the weekends?

Living in central Oregon, I love to go outside with my family and friends. I enjoy hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting. I like to build and work with the tools if I’m stuck in the garage.  Anything from wood working to welding. Fractal wood burning tool I built from an old microwave and some furnace parts was a fun project!

Where did you go on your last vacation?

Me and the wife spent a week in the Olympic National Park for our anniversary. It is a huge park, and neither of us have been there before. â€‹

What is something unique or surprising about you?

Most people are surprised when I tell them I have two daughters, one 19 years old and another 13 years old.  Most people aren’t expecting our kids to be that old.

Sports?

Hunting and fishing, target shooting, hiking. I’ll play just about any sport for fun. My wife says I can get a little competitive.

When you were a little kid, what did you want to do when you grew up?

The unrealistic artist career was always a goal. Graphic design, video editing, drawing, and creating music.

What is your claim to fame?

I can play chess well. I don’t plan on winning a World Chess Championship or anything, but it’s a fun game to play if you have some time.

Do you have any pets?

Two dogs. Maggie and Toby. We picked both dogs from shelters. Maggie is three years old, and Toby is still a puppy.  Both are a large breed and fear everything.

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?

I play bass guitar. I have scaled back how many I own now but still have three amps and three bass guitars. I also have a cool collection of comic books.

What do you like most about your job?

I like the variety! Since I started work in July I’ve gained so many new skills and gotten better at thinking on my feet. You never know what the day will hold! Also, driving the forklift, I’m definitely a big fan of driving the forklift.

What did you do before you came to work here?

The big thing I did before working here was getting a degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Lewis & Clark College. I graduated in 2022 and immediately decided to pivot towards working in a trade. After doing two different pre-apprenticeship programs, I got accepted into the Sheet Metal Institute and the rest is history.

What do you like to do on the weekends?

I like to spend time with the people I care about, watch horror movies, go on hikes, play with my cats, and make various kinds of arts and crafts!

Where did you go on your last vacation?

My last vacation was to the Oregon coast with my partner for our anniversary. There’s a town called Yachats that hides little mushroom statues around different hiking trails every Saturday from October to March. We weren’t fast enough to find any, but we had a great time searching! The beaches were also wonderful and so was the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

What is something unique or surprising about you?

My parents gave me seven legal names when I was born, and I still decided not to go by any of them.

Sports?

Nope! I haven’t played any sports in years; not since running cross country throughout all of middle and high school. I do backpack though! And cheer on my partner when they play volleyball.

How would your best friend describe you in three words?

Kind, communicative, and cozy.

When you were a little kid, what did you want to do when you grew up?

That answer to that question would definitely depend on what age you asked me. I wanted to be a vet for a while, then a photographer for national geographic, and then a park ranger!

What is your claim to fame?

My final anthropology thesis got me a position on the consultation committee for the Chinese Memorial Garden being planned as a part of Lone Fir Cemetery in Portland.

Do you have any pets?

I have two absolutely adorable cats named Abra (short for Abracadabra) and Enoki Rose.

Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?

I collect and clean animal bones to add to the ever expanding collection in my cabinet of various oddities.
